(i)  Atomic mass unit is defined as accurately 1/12th part of the mass of a carbon-12 atom.

(ii)  The carbon-12 atom has six neutrons and six protons in its nucleus.

(iii)  It is represented as a.m.u or u (unified).

(iv)   It is a unit of mass used to express atomic masses.

(v)   1 a.m.u is the average mass of the proton and the neutron .

(vi)  1 a.m.u. = 1.67377 x 10-27 kilogram or 1.67377 x 10-24 gram.
