Motional EMF Class 12 Physics
Motional EMF :- When a conducting rod moves in a magnetic field as it cuts the magnetic
field lines then an emf is induced in the coil and that emf is called motional
emf .
→ When a rod moves in magnetic field , means the electrons of rod moves in the magnetic field and
that moving electrons (charge) experiences a magnetic force and electrons get shifted towards one
end of the rod , due to this movement of electron , +ve and -ve charges get develop on the ends of
the rod . Due to the separation of charges an electric field is induced and that electric field applies
force on the electron in the opposite direction of magnetic force . After some times when electric
force and magnetic force on the electron becomes equal then movement of electrons get stopped
and between the ends of wire a potential difference established , this potential difference is
Motional EMF .
Calculation of Motional EMF :-
here, E = Motional emf , B = Magnetic Field , l = Length of rod
